DURHAM, NC (Sept. 17, 2012) – More than 1,200 tennis players from across North Carolina took part in the 2012 North Carolina USTA League Mixed Doubles State Championships September 13-16 in Durham. Heavy rains reeked havoc on Championship Sunday of the tournament, forcing all matches to be moved indoors in three different cities. By the conclusion of the tournament 11 teams emerged with a state championship. Piedmont led all districts with three state champions, while Eno River and South East Tennis both recorded a pair of winners. The 11 state champions advanced to the Southern Sectionals next month in Macon, Ga. The sectional tournament will be held October 12-14. The tournament included 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0 levels in the adult division, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 in the senior division and 7.0 and 8.0 in the super senior divisions. Teams were made up of two players, one male and one female, whose NTRP ratings combine to equal one of the five levels mentioned above.
