GREENSBORO, NC (Oct. 22, 2012) – More than 500 tennis players from across North Carolina took part in the 2012 Singles League State Championships October 19-21 in Greensboro. 12 teams captured a state championship led by Piedmont, Lake Norman, Metro and Western North Carolina with two representatives each. Captain Jihun Moon’s adult 3.0 men’s team out of Greensboro dominated the competition en route to its state title after winning all 12 of its courts and dropping just 66 games. They went 9-0 in local league play this season where they won 24 of a possible 27 courts. Piedmont’s other champion, captained by Brian Baker, won the adult 4.5 men’s division by going 5-0 in the tournament — including a 3-0 blanking in the finals over Eno River. Lake Norman’s adult 3.5 women and adult 4.5 women teams both won their divisions by going 4-0 in the tournament. Metro’s adult 3.0 women’s team accumulated a perfect 5-0 record to capture its division, while its 4.5 team upset undefeated Capital 2-1 in the finals to win its division. The tournament included 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 levels in the adult division and 3.5 and 4.0 in the senior division.
