After winning the USTA North Carolina Tennis On Campus State Championship and the USTA Tennis On Campus Southern Championship, the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill kept its success on the court going strong at the USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship in Cary, finishing third overall in the 2015 tournament.
The Tar Heels reached the semifinals after defeating the University of Florida by just two games in the quarters. UNC narrowly missed a shot at the title after losing to the University of Minnesota 23-19.
The third-place match came down to a tough battle between UNC and UCLA. After winning the first three sets, UCLA found itself sitting in a good position to take the match. But freshman Ryan Wydra shifted the momentum back to the Tar Heels by taking the men's singles set.
In the final set of the match, Will McDonald and Roxanne Henshall closed things out in mixed doubles, giving Tar Heels a 24-20 win to capture third place.
The UC Berkeley Golden Bears repeated at national champions with an impressive 27-17 win over Minnesota in the final. For the full story and other highlights from the Tennis On Campus National Championship, click here.
